Update from Chennai: Bougainvillea

A recent visit to Chennai gave us much joy - in our absence the bougainvillea had not just grown by leaps and bounds and taken over the wall but was flowering profusely as well.

I learnt just a couple of days back, from fellow blogger Rohrerbot's post that the colourful parts of the bougainvillea is not the flower after all! These are the bracts - the actual flower is the tiny white thing within.

Nice pictures, especially the macro! It's a brilliant capture!
I miss these flowers. In the Philippines, where I came from, they bloom profusely and with different colors. Because they're everywhere, I just took them for granted. Now I miss them.

That is a beautiful plant....I love the color. Our finally are making their VERY slow comeback after our cold winter. I absolutely love this plant....not the thorns though:) Hope you had a nice and relaxing weekend!

A beautiful plant; I have a bougainvillea of a very similar variety. Alas, it lives in a pot in the foyer of my parents' house and will likely never get the chance to grow so big...

Fabulous close-up of the flowers. They do almost go unnoticed, don't they! Watch out your Bougie doesn't become a real monster ... they take off so quickly and they're a horror to trim with those thorns!

There are so many varieties of bouganvillea these days. And lovely colours too. And they are allowed to trail over walls, over nearby trees and they add so much colour to the surroundings.
