Shell ginger (Alpinia zerumbet 'Variegata')

From the neighbourhood 'temple' park

The shell ginger has the most interesting looking flowers - white, shell like (!), they remind me of peeled lychees.

May 15th 2011 Update:
From the garden around the pool where i go to swim

I have this plant in my garden. The shell-like flowers do resemble 'shelled' lytchies!

Yes, the blooms are very pretty!

About my B&B, it's on the upper floor of our house. The garden area is very small but I have used every inch of space for plants! Trying to make do with whatever soil area is left!;) Hope you'll come and stay here some day, Arati!
