Poodle tree? Antennae flower?

I've seen this tree many a time before, but for the first time today i saw a red antennae like growth off the top of one of branches. Look at the pictures -- isnt it strange? and beautiful!

As always, if you know what it is called, do let me know.

The umbrella tree is the Brassaia actinophylla. The common name comes from the shape of the leaf clusters and it is also called the 'octopus tree' because of the inflorescence.
