Lalbagh Independance day flower show
It was that time of the year again - Aug and Jan, the Lalbagh Gardens puts up a display of flowers to celebrate independence and republic day.
This year the central decoration was a floral boat.
Here are some of the roses that caught my attention.

Lalbagh flower show & this year's first flowers
The flower show to celebrate Republic day was on once again at Lalbagh, the center piece this time being a flower decorated Eiffel tower, along with the statue of a lady and of Vivekananda.
I did not visit, hence do not have pictures to share, but I do have some of the first flowers of the year from around me. Surprisingly the gulmohar tree in front of our building flowered in January - not a whole lot of flowers but a few here and there. It was rather surprising as the flowering usually begins only in April - has it been so much hotter?
This is the one from the pot we have in our balcony.

Strolling through Lalbagh
Every walk through Lalbagh leads to new discoveries. It is a veritable treasure house of nature -- there is so much to learn. This morning I noticed many many bee hives, and the interesting thing was that all of them were on the bombax trees. Amidst the silky cotton drifting around were these white-brown hives, full I'm sure, of stingy bees. Take a look at the branches closely and see if you can spot them.
Next on was this image right out of a fairy tale... a huge canonball tree, full of flowers. Ethereal!

Leaves turned red ..
And a private residence that reminded me of the ones at the Theosophical Society.
Rows of water lilies at the nursery.. such a pleasant sight in this hot weather..
And finally, the addition to the succulents at home -
