Ballston pond

Ballston pond was made into a wetlands in 2022. The water flows in from lubber run and goes through a segment catchment area and a garbage collector. The clean water then flows into the wetland area and then flows back to lubber run and 4 mile.
Wetlands help reduce water pollution and collect storm water run off,  preventing flooding.

Francis Scott Park and memorial

A tiny alcove in georgetown,  a fantastic place to pause and reflect. The gnarly old climber guarantees shade and somehow even tranquility amidst the bustle and traffic.

Sanctuary

A place to go to heal, to soothe the mind - to see the calming flow of the water, to feel the gentle breeze and to lose oneself amidst the trees and leaves, the undergrowth, the quiet critters, the chirping birds and the spring flowers. Teddy Roosevelt Island is my sanctuary in this city and it is there that I ventured today. It was a beautiful spring day, not cold not hot, as perfect as can be. The water flowed under the bridge and I sat for a while under the shade of the trees in the parking lot, taking it all in. Then crossed over the bridge and entered the island. It was so tranquil with a few walkers and many birds. I had not seen it previously in spring and took in all the flowers - the white ones with pointy petals, the small more rounded petalled white, the one with clusters of white spikes - quite wonderful to see, the tiny tiny purple ones, the fragrant white ones on overgrown branches and the pretty yellow (catstails?). It was all so delightful - the gravel path, the boardwalk, the muddy extensions, the small turtle on the path with the most curious eyes and the picnic spot that provided a view of the key bridge to georgetown and the national cathedral. It was nice to sit there a while and observe the water and the greenery, the kayaks and the buses.
