Eucalyptus

Apparently the eucalyptus was first introduced in India in the late 1700s by Tipu Sultan in Mysore. No wonder then that neighbouring Bangalore has such an inordinate number of eucalyptus trees and plantations. Here is a row of eucalyptus trees from around the Lalbagh Lake.

I don't know why I like these trees, but I do. There is something very striking about them and in the way the grow. Whether you plant them in rows or as a solitary tree, they look amazing with their silver foliage.....and the bark. They take desert heat very well and once established, don't need a lot of watering. Two drawbacks....the roots will search for pipelines and they can be a messy tree after a wind storm....but it's a great tree.

I like the Eucalyptus too. Its scent after rain is heavenly! Tipu Sultan seems to have been a plant lover too.
